General Conditions

  1. The Welsh Pony and Cob Society’s Showing Rules shall apply, subject to precedence being taken by any of this show’s own regulations.
  2. All entries must be registered, or in the case of foals be eligible for registration, with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (hereafter referred to as WPCS) or with another/daughter society, which is recognised by WPCS. Animals registered with another/daughter society must have a pedigree which can be traced back to sires and dams exported from the United Kingdom with correct export certificates. All entries must have a passport (except foals under 6 months old and accompanied by their dams). The definition of Pure Bred Sections is in accordance with the Rules and Regulations approved by the WPCS. Partbreds must have a minimum of 12.5 % registered Welsh blood.
  3. Foals must be led, and accompanied by their dams in the show ring. Foals must be at least three weeks old. Brood mares should be accompanied by their own foal. A barren mare is a mare which will not produce a foal in the current year. Any mare that has produced a foal in the current year must be accompanied by that foal in the show ring.
  4. Three year old fillies with a foal at foot are excluded from participating in this show.
  5. Should any entry appear unsound, it shall be examined by the show’s veterinary and if in his opinion the pony is unsound, it shall be withdrawn from competition. Should any entry be found to be suffering from any contagious or infectious disease, it shall be removed into isolation at the request of the veterinarian at the owner’s costs.
  6. Ear hair and whiskers must not be removed. Yearlings and 2 year olds must not be shod. The use of any substance to influence the tail carriage is prohibited.
  7. All ponies, regardless of origin, can be subject to veterinary inspection on arrival at the showgrounds. The Show Committee reserves the right to ‘dope test’ any animal to ascertain the presence of any ‘prohibited substance’. If the test is positive, the pony is not allowed to come into the ring to participate.
  8. The Judges’ decisions are final.
  9. Objection shall be made within 30 minutes of the termination of the class, in writing, with the objector’s full name and address, and lodged at the Show Secretary’s Office, together with the sum of € 100,00. All deposits shall be returned if the objection is sustained, or forfeited if the objection is found to be frivolous or incorrect in any detail.
  10. No person may enter or show a pony or Cob under a judge, who is known to have bred, owned, sold or produced that pony or Cob, or has (had) any other kind of financial interest in the animal.
  11. All ridden or driven entries must be 4 years old and over.
  12. All stallions 4 years old and over must be licensed (and/or approved and/or graded) in accordance with the regulations in their own country, in order to be allowed to enter in the In-Hand classes.
  13. Exhibitors from abroad submit their entries to a local representative (Society), who must check the correctness of the pedigrees and passports of all entries and check that the stallions are approved as stated in the previous paragraph. The local representatives then submit all correct entries to the Show Secretary.
  14. All stallions, including young stallions from the age of 2, must be presented with a bit.
  15. In the Leading Rein and First Ridden classes, stallions are not allowed.
  16. Leading Rein leaders must have a minimum age of 16. Handlers in non-Young Handler classes have to be 12 years old at the day of the show. Handlers of a stallion have to be 14 years old at the day of the show.
  17. The Show Committee reserves the right to cancel, combine or divide any class according to the number of entries received, to return or refuse any entry and to appoint substitutes for a judge, who may be unavoidably prevented from officiating.
  18. Hard hats (of required European Standard) must be worn whilst mounted on the showgrounds.
  19. All competitors in ridden, driven or in In-hand classes must be correctly and tidily dressed. Exhibitors are not permitted to wear clothing bearing the name of their stud or sponsorlogo’s while in the show ring. In Driven classes a groom/handler is allowed to assist in the lining up, but must also look neat at all times, be smartly dressed and wear a hat.
  20. No spurs to be worn in the ridden classes (WPCS). A whip or stick with a maximum length of 75 cm may be used.
  21. A fall of a pony or rider in any class will result in disqualification. The rider must not remount in the ring.
  22. Ponies may be trimmed only within the Welsh Pony and Cob Society specifications. Manes should not be plaited and tails should not be braided, with the exception of Part Bred ponies. Deliberate changes to the original markings of an animal will not be allowed.
  23. Only 1 (one) person (= handler) is allowed to show/accompany a pony or Cob in the show ring for the In-Hand classes.
  24. Exhibitors shall be responsible for the behaviour and conduct of their assistants or grooms. All persons in charge of exhibits shall be subject to the orders of the stewards and judges.
  25. If an unruly animal is likely to cause an accident, the judge has the power to tell the handler and animal to leave the ring.
  26. Animals should not be left unattended when tied to the side of trailers or lorries.
  27. Dogs must be always kept under control and on lead and kept away from the show ring.
  28. No fires to be lit or barbeques to be held in the horse box lines or in the caravan area.
  29. The Show Committee accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any loss, injury or damage to any person, animal or property on the showgrounds, in the stables, car parks and their approaches.
  30. It is a condition of entry that all exhibitors shall indemnify the show and its officials against all actions, proceedings, claims etc. in relation to or arising out of his/her entries in the show.
  31. Neither the Show Committee nor any of its officers, servants, or assistants shall be in any way responsible for any loss, injury or damages that may happen (from any cause or circumstances whatever) to exhibitors or their servants or assistants or other members of the public, or to any animal or property or to any vehicle brought into the showgrounds, or on premises used in conjunction with the show, or while entering or leaving the same, or otherwise for anything else in connection with or arising out of or attributable to the show. Participation is at your own risk.
  32. Each exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to or occasioned by, or arising from any animal (including the spread of any infection or contagious disease) or article exhibited or introduced to the showgrounds by him or her and shall indemnify the Show Committee against all actions, proceedings, liabilities, claims, damages and expenses in relation to or arising out of his or her entry or entries in the show.
  33. The Show Committee in its absolute discretion may, without assigning any reason, refuse an entry or cancel any entry already accepted or may decline to admit to the showgrounds any animal or exhibitor or person or withhold any prize. Whenever, under this regulation any entry is refused or cancelled, or any exhibit, exhibitor or person is refused admission or is removed, the fees paid for such entry may, at the discretion of the Show Committee, be refunded and if refunded, shall be accepted by the exhibitor or intending exhibitor in full satisfaction of all claims against the Show Committee.
  34. The Show Committee shall have the power to suspend or remove from the showgrounds, at the expense and risk of the person responsible, their stock or property, or anyone who shall infringe any of the regulations of the show or the WPCS or who shall refuse to comply with any instructions given by the stewards, or whose conduct shall in the opinion of the Show Committee be derogatory to the character or prejudicial to the interest of the WPCS and IG Welsh or its members, or who in the opinion of the Show Committee have been guilty of any act or omission involving cruelty or unnecessary suffering to, or neglect of any animal, and all forfeits, fees and charges shall be due by the person responsible before any removal from the showgrounds takes place.
