Introducing judge Mrs. Janet Murphy

Are you curious who the judges are at the International Show? We will introduce the next judge of our 22nd International show: Mrs. Janet Murphy from the Keyi Stud in Australia.

Mrs. Janet Murphy (Keyi stud) will judge the section B togheter with Mrs. Margaret (Nefydd stud) and also the Overall Performance Championship togheter with ms. Sarah Hamer (Cwmhir stud) on the 22nd International Show which is held on 24-25th of August in Holland.

Janet and her husband Chris have bred Welsh Section B ponies for nearly 40 years. They are very passionate about the breed. Nearly all females at their stud go back to three foundation mares: Madoroma Dulcet, Rotherwood Charm (imp) and Treharne Cornelia (imp). The most influential stallions have been Weston Fernando (imp), Carolinas Mistlethrush (imp), Weston Park Congo, Pontsteffan Simwnt (imp) and Waxwing Peru (imp) and are all owned by Janet and Chris.

They aim to breed a pony that has the conformation, type, movement and temperament to win at the top level in hand and under saddle or in harness. They are also firm believers, that a pony must be able to do more than run around on a piece of string.

Pony character

Janet: “I love a Section B with bone, substance and plenty of ‘pony’ character. I also place a lot of emphasis on a really good walk, on movement and somewhere to put a saddle. I like my Section Bs to look ‘unmistakably Welsh’.”

“When judging a performance pony or cob, I look for an animal that is flowing and forward, with soft upwards and downwards transitions, and which appears to be enjoying its job.”

I am a Tier 1 judge on the WPCS of Australia judging panel and a judge’s assessor. I love judging and have judged all over Australia at medal shows and Royal shows, as well as in New Zealand and the UK.”

‘I am incredibly honoured to have been invited to judge at your International Show and am thoroughly looking forward to it’
