Introducing judge Mr. Stein Langørgen

Curious about the judges at the International Show? We will introduce one of our 22nd International show judges: Mr. Stein Langørgen from the Gnist Stud in Norway.

Mr. Stein Langørgen (Gnist stud) will be judging the section C&D and also the Welsh pony Ridden classes together with Mrs. Sonia Smith (Trevallion stud) on the 22nd International Show which is held on 24-25th of August in the Netherlands.

Stein Langørgen (58) is a passioned horse man who lives in the southeast part of Norway. He’s been involved with horses all his life. He got his first Welsh when he was 11 years old.

Steinsrud and Gnist

He bred section A’s, section C’s and section D's with the Steinsrud prefix. Nowaday he’s got section C‘s and warmblood riding horses. His current prefix is Gnist.

From 1998 up till 2001 he followed the Norwegian training program for judges and graduated in 2001.
In Norway Stein is qualified to judge all breeds and was member of several European judging panels, including the National pony society M&M panel.

Stein: “As a judge I have had the pleasure of visiting many different countries, I have seen many beautiful ponies, and I’ve met many interesting and kind people. In 2021 I had the honor of judging the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in Birmingham. Usually, I judge between 10 and 15 shows and gradings every year.”

Stand out as a Welsh

“The breeds specific type is important to me. When you look at a Welsh out in a field, you need to be able to tell it’s a Welsh and when it moves it should remove all doubt. The gaits should be typical for the breed and with good action.”

“For the ridden classes, I like to see well behaved animals with free movement, ridden with a soft hand and not overbent.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing you all in August”.
